We are proud to offer you 20 Charolais bulls and 10 First Calf heifer pairs at our first Annual sale on March 26, 2019 in La Junta, Colorado along with Cardinal Charolais from Hillrose, Colorado. Join us at Winter Livestock at 12pm (noon) to take home your next herd sire.
The purebred Charolais bulls used at Horse Creek Charolais combine calving ease with plenty of growth to add pounds and profit to any herd. All of our young herd sires spend their first year with the commercial cows as a test of performance in the commercial world. If we won’t use them on our cows, we don’t expect you to either.

Horse Creek Charolais
Annual Bull Sale
March 26, 2019 • 12 Noon
Welcome to Horse Creek Charolais
Located in southeastern Colorado outside of Cheraw Colorado, Horse Creek Charolais is proud to invite you to our inaugural bull sale. We are 14 miles north of La Junta, Colorado and 114 miles southeast of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Chris and Malinda Matthew have been in the commercial cattle business since 2002. In 2008, we bought our first Charolais herd bull to use on our black hided commercial cows. The smoky feeder calves that hit the ground were absolutely stunning. We never looked back. We had an opportunity to finish some steers at local feedlot High Plains Feeders, in La Junta, CO and here is what Co-Owner Frank Daurio had to say:
“The cattle came into our yard early in January after being backgrounded at Chris’s feedlot. They were of Cardinal Charolais bulls and Angus cross cows. We never touched a single animal with a needle and had a 0% death loss. The cattle gained 4 pounds per head per day and converted 5.75:1 DM (dry matter) on a simple dry roll corn ration. the cattle graded greater than 80% choice at 1400 lbs+ pay weight. You could literally watch the steers gain weight. Those cattle are hands down the best set of fat cattle we have had the pleasure of feeding. I was very impressed by the temperament of the cattle as well. I would highly recommend any producer running these bulls on your cow herd.”
The success that we have had with the Charolais bulls has been unreal. We believe in the Charolais cross calf so much that we went straight to the source and purchased 50 replacement heifers from our friends and partners at Cardinal Charolais in 2017, and Horse Creek Charolais was founded.
